Dwight HAAS

Dwight HAAS, 55, former area resident, died Sunday afternoon, April 14, 1996, at his rural Belvidere, Ill., home.

A graveside service will be conducted at 6 p.m. Thursday at Pattison Cemetery southeast of Fairfield, with Behner Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Memorials and cards may be sent to the Rex TEDROW family, 1604 275th St., Libertyville.

HAAS was born Dec. 28, 1940, in Lee County, the son of Richard L. and Alice M. PATTAN HAAS. He attended school in Jefferson County, received a bachelor of science degree, and doctor of optometry degree from Illinois College of Optometry in 1964, with honors in Beta Sigma Kappa Honorary Fraternity. On Aug. 4, 1963, he married Geri DOOLIN. He served as an optometry officer in the Biomedical Service Corps at Westover Air Base Hospital in Massachusetts. He practiced in his hometown for 10 years, took post-graduate work at Indiana University and became consultant for Wesley-Jessen Inc. of Chicago. He traveled and lectured throughout the United States. He served on the faculties of Southern California College of Optometry, Illinois College of Optometry and the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine, where he was director of the residency program and helped train post-graduate trainees.

He developed a vision therapy practice at Michael Reese Hospital, University of Illinois Hospitals and at Olympia Fields Osteopathic Medical Centers. He participated in a number of educators' workshops throughout the country and served as consultant to education for Trans Allied Medical Education Services in Flossmoor, Ill., and with Humana-Michael Reese Health Plan.

He held a commercial pilot license, and was a deacon and active in the United Church of God. Photography was a favorite pastime.

Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Debra Lynn of Bryan, Texas; two sons, Kevin Eric of Hammond, Ind., Brian Jeffrey at home; his mother; a sister, Karen TEDROW of Libertyville; a brother, Terryl of Victorville, Calif.; nieces and nephews, and several grandnieces and grandnephews. His father and an infant son preceded him in death.
