Walter L. GRAY

Walter L. GRAY, 80, of the Marshalltown Veterans Memorial Home in Marshalltown died Thursday morning, Aug. 17, 2000, at the home.

A graveside service, with military rites, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Evergreen Cemetery with the Rev. Ed Parker officiating.

Open visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. today at Behner Funeral Home. Memorials can be made to the donor's choice.

Mr. GRAY was born Aug. 18, 1919, in Henry County, the son of Clinton and Jesse B. PURDIE GRAY. He married Eileen HARPER. She died March 23, 1997.

Mr. GRAY graduated from Fairfield High School. He farmed at Oakland Mills and worked at Loudens Company. He received many awards and decorations for serving in the U.S. Army during World War II, including Bronze Star Medal, Good Conduct Medal, European Conduct Medal (with three campaign stars), World War II Victory Medal and Combat Infantryman's Badge. He worked with horses when he was younger.

Survivors include one son, Ronald W. GRAY of Washington, W.Va.; one daughter, Lana BUSTOS of Bettendorf; two stepsons, Ronnie COOK and Bill CARTER; and six grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Robert and James GRAY.
