Gloria M. SHROSBREE

Gloria M. SHROSBREE, 91, passed peacefully on Wednesday, June 4, 2014, at home in SunnyBrook Living Care Center. Gloria was born in Lakewood, Ohio, on April 24, 1923, to Carmine and Amanda ORGO. Her family lived in Florida and California, before settling in Chicago, where she grew up.

In her early years, her father was a scriptwriter, and at about age 4 she had bit parts in a couple of Charlie Chaplin films. She attended Amundsen High School where she was on the school swim team and the diving team. After graduation in 1940, she modeled for Carson Pirie Scott and Marshal Fields department stores. She married Richard SHROSBREE in 1943.

Upon her husband's return from the South Pacific and Korea they stared (sic - started) a family and soon after moved to California. Once Gloria became a mother, her two sons, James and Robert, were her greatest focus in life.

Gloria's "tell it like it is" tenacious character, combined with a loving heart, and an unstoppable sense of humor fueled her generous, open demeanor. Her attitude of all possibilities automatically made people feel at home, and she effortlessly made lifelong friends wherever she went.

Gloria spent many years in the Seattle area near her son Robert and his family before moving to Fairfield in 2012, where she has been close to her son James, daughter-in-law Kathy, granddaughter Gyan, and the Witherspoon family.

Also surviving her are three grandchildren, John, Beth and Kate SHROSBREE, and many nieces and nephews in Washington, California, and Nevada.

Her passing was preceded by her son Robert's in 2011.

Gloria will be dearly missed.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 14, at St. Gabriel's and All Angels Liberal Catholic Church, 300 E. Burlington Ave. A reception will follow at Chautauqua Park, shelter No. 3.

Gloria was a long time supporter of Publisher's Clearing House -- however, the family suggests donations in her name to Hospice Compassus Hospice (Compassushospice.com) or St. Gabriel's and All Angels Liberal Catholic Church.
