Mabel Elna MOYERS HAINES, 86, died Monday, May 26, 2014, at Pleasant Manor Care Center in Mt. Pleasant.
A funeral is at 10 a.m. Friday at Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield, with the Rev. Stacy Grau officiating. Burial will be at Lockridge Cemetery.
Visitation for family and friends is 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lockridge Cemetery or Alzheimer Foundation. Cards and memorials can be sent to: 2118 E. 227th Ave., Fairfield 52556.
Mrs. HAINES was born Jan. 19, 1928, in Burlington, the daughter of Lloyd and Ruth YOUNGBERG MOYERS. She married Ernest HAINES Oct. 9, 1955, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Burlington.
She attended Fairview Benton Country School, graduated valedictorian with the class of 1945 from Mediapolis and attended two years at Burlington Business College.
She was on the first girls' basketball team for Mediapolis.
She worked at Security Laboratories, Riley Brothers Oil, Iowa Army Ammunition Plant, Jefferson County Hospital and the Fairfield Sale Barn.
She was a loving mother and farm wife.
She and her husband farmed in the Lockridge area more than 40 years.
She enjoyed going with her husband to the Midwest Old Threshers Reunion every year.
She enjoyed gardening, card playing, dancing, picking blackberries and mushroom hunting.
She enjoyed playing the accordion, piano and harmonica.
She and her husband enjoyed watching their kids and grandkids in sports activities.
She was a member of the Augustana Lutheran Church in Lockridge.
Survivors include her husband, Ernest of Fairfield; five children, Elna HAINES of Bloomfield, William HAINES and spouse Bettye of Fairfield, Janet SUTTER and spouse Chuck of Mt. Pleasant, Leo HAINES and spouse Georgia of Brighton; 20 grandchildren; and one sister, Betty LONG of Lockridge.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Ethel and Caroline; two brothers, Lloyd and Doyle; and one daughter, Karla HARVEY.
