Virginia KRACAW BAUMGARTNER REINIER, 93, of Fairfield, died Saturday May 24, 2014, at Jefferson County Health Center in Fairfield.

A memorial service was this morning at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Fairfield with the Rev. Art Sathoff officiating. A private family burial will be in Richland Friends Cemetery at a later date (note: in Keokuk Co., IA).

Visitation with the family was Monday at the church.

Memorials to First Christian Church may be left at the church or mailed to the family at 308 E. Washington Ave., Fairfield 52556.

Gould Funeral Home of Richland handled arrangements.

Mrs. REINIER was born Nov. 9, 1920, in Washington County near Brighton, the daughter of Lloyd and Hattie OSWALT KRACAW. She married Max BAUMGARTNER Jan. 16, 1947. She married Edwin REINIER March 31, 1978. He died in 1995.

She graduated from Richland High School in 1938 and from Parsons College in 1964.

She taught school for 33 years, beginning in rural schools and later in Bladensburg, Richland, Batavia and Fairfield, retiring in 1983.

She was a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) where she enjoyed leading the bell choir and was a member of Christian Women's Fellowship and a member of Retired School Personnel.

Her many volunteer activities included taking the bells to nursing homes and leading the residents in old familiar tunes, working at the hospital auxiliary gift shop and cooking meals for shut-ins and others in need.

She loved to craft things with her hands, often making quilts and decorative rugs.

Survivors include her daughter, Mary Ann HESSE of Fairfield and four stepchildren.

In addition to her husband, Edward REINER (sic - REINIER), she was preceded in death by her parents.
