Ruby L. BEATTY

Ruby L. BEATTY, 90, of Keosauqua died Thursday May 14, 2014, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

A funeral is at 11 a.m. Monday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, with the Rev. Douglas Harding and the Rev. Frank McKeehan officiating. Burial will be in Fellows Cemetery in Keosauqua.

Visitation with family is an hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Memorials to Keosauqua Public Library or Keosauqua Methodist Church may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 306 Van Buren St., Keosauqua 52565.

Mrs. BEATTY was born June 10, 1923, in Fort Madison, the daughter of Earl George and Catherine FREEMAN OWENS. She married Warren BEATTY April 4, 1948, at Fort Madison.

She lived most of her life north of Keosauqua on the BEATTY family farm and worked as a librarian at the Keosauqua Public Library for 20 years. Prior to this she worked as a cook in the school kitchen.

In 1988, the couple retired and moved to town.

She was a member of Neighborhood Book Club, Mother's Club, UMW- Ruth Circle, Van Buren Players, Van Buren Historical Society and sang in the adult choir at the Keosauqua United Methodist Church.

She loved traveling, doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles and attending her grandchildren's activities and events.

Survivors include her husband; four daughters, Sharon CARR and spouse Melvin of Keosauqua, Carolyn HARRYMAN and spouse Marvin of Burlington, Sue McKEEHAN and spouse Frank of Clear Lake, South Dakota, and Claudia NICOL and spouse Ray of Mason, Michigan; one son, David BEATTY of Burlington; 17 grandchildren; two step granddaughters; several great-grandchildren, and one sister, Earlene JONES of Fort Madison.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Lyle OWENS.
