April 23, 2004Raymond C. Booth, 87, of Batavia died today, Friday, April 23, 2004, at Jefferson County Hospital Long-term Care Unit.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Batavia United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Thomas Raphael-Nakos officiating. Burial will be in Batavia Cemetery.
Open visitation will be from 1-8 p.m. Sunday at Kremer Funeral Chapel in Batavia, with the family present from 3-5 p.m.
Memorials may be directed to the Batavia United Methodist Church or the Batavia Lions Club.
Booth was born Aug. 2, 1916, in Jefferson County, the son of Charles and Jennie Bowers Booth. He married Velma Williams April 30, 1939, in Fairfield.
He was reared and educated in Jefferson County, attending a country school near Libertyville. He and his wife farmed southwest of Libertyville from 1939 until 1951 when they moved to their current farm near Batavia.
Booth was a member of the Batavia Lions Club and was a 4-H leader for several years. He served on the board of directors of the Farmer's Telephone Co. in Batavia for 22 years and on the Batavia school board from 1954 to 1957.
Mr. Booth and his family were named Farmers Home Administration Family of the Year in 1969.
His favorite pastimes were game hunting and watching baseball and basketball games.
He was a member of Batavia United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Marilyn Allison-Nance and husband Donald of Libertyville; one son, Rex Booth and wife Linda of Batavia; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Gladys McDonough of Ottumwa, Marie Zuehlke of Eldon and Mineta Pringle of Creston.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson; and one great-grandson.
