Ruth Esther DUNN

Ruth Esther DUNN, 91, of Mt. Pleasant, died Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at Park Place in Mt. Pleasant.

A funeral is at 11 a.m. Monday at Elliott Funeral Chapel in New London, with the Rev. Deborah Stowers officiating. Burial will be in Burge Cemetery in New London (note: in Henry Co., IA).

Visitation opens at 9 a.m. Monday at the funeral chapel, and the family will greet friends from 10-11 a.m., prior to the funeral.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Mrs. DUNN was born Feb. 24, 1923, on the family farm east of Beulah Church, the daughter of Walter Charles and Hazel A. MOORE BRANDMEYER. She married James W. DUNN Jr. Feb. 24, 1941, in Memphis, Missouri. He died Oct. 30, 1999.

She was a 1941 graduate of New London High School.

She was a farm wife.

She had been a member of Beulah Church since 1939.

She was a member of her neighborhood 76 Club.

She enjoyed bowling, writing poetry, traveling, being with people, gambling - especially the slot machines - antiques, spiced jelly beans and collecting paperweights.

She and her husband had been active in Old Threshers activities.

Survivors include one son, Doyle J. DUNN of Mt. Pleasant; one daughter, Deanna Mae NORTHCOTT and spouse Jay of Mayhill, New Mexico; one daughter-in-law, Cindy DUNN of Libertyville; 11 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and one sister, Shirley SIMKIN of Tucson, Arizona.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Donald "Doc" DUNN; three brothers, Clyde, Lorraine and Irl BRANDMEYER; and three sisters, June McKENZIE, Evelyn BRANDMEYER and Thelma TURNER.
