Jack SCHMIDT

The service for Arno Jack SCHMIDT, 63, 509 E. Burlington Ave., who died at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 18, 1991, at Jefferson County Hospital, will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday Friday at Raymond Funeral Home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Clinton Lodge 15 will conduct Masonic rites at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. This will be followed by family visitation from 7:15 to 8. A memorial has been established to Fairfield Public Library.

SCHMIDT was born Sept. 8, 1927, in Davenport, the son of Arno John and Elzaida M. BARRETT SCHMIDT. A lifelong resident of Fairfield, he graduated from Fairfield High School in 1945. He served in the Air Force in World War II, then attended University of Iowa, where he was a member of Sigma Chi. He worked at Dexter Company as purchasing agent, at Louden Machinery Company in sales and as purchasing agent, for Fairfield Engineering Company in sales, had operated the Shell Service Station at Second Street and Broadway Avenue, and worked at the VFW Club after retiring.

He was a licensed lay leader in the Episcopal church, a member of Elks, Eagles, VFW, American Legion, Clinton Masonic Lodge 15, Chapter and Council, Commandrey, KAABA Shrine, Fairfield Shrine Club and was a former member of the 34th Division Band.

Surviving are a son, Karl B. of Cedar Rapids; two daughters, Susan Jayne SCHMIDT MCDOWELL of Fort Worth, Texas, Sara Ann SCHMIDT COX of Springfield, Mo.; two grandsons and a brother, Gene A. of Cedar Rapids. His parents and a sister, Jane SCHRADER, preceded him in death.

Admin. note: Buried in Lot 3rd.204; he has a civilian headstone and a military marker which identifies him as a Corporal in the U.S. Army Air Corps (former name for the Air Force).
