Helen B. SWARTZ

Helen B. SWARTZ, 82, of rural Keosauqua died t 7:10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 31, 2000, at Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Church of the Nazarene, with the Rev. Howard Innis officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Open visitation began at 2 p.m. today at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, where the family will be present from 7-8 p.m. The family also will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the service begins Saturday at the church. Memorials to First Church of the Nazarene may be left at the funeral home or at the church.

Mrs. SWARTZ was born Oct. 2, 1917, in Louvan, Saskatchewan, Canada, the daughter of Oscar and Lozette McKEEHAN GREEN. She married Donald B. SWARTZ June 6, 1941, in Bowmont, Idaho. He died Jan. 22, 1987.

She grew up in Idaho, attended Northwest Nazarene College in Nampa, Idaho, and taught school and worked as a nurse's aide in Idaho. She moved to Van Buren County in 1947 and taught first grade in Keosauqua and Birmingham elementary schools for 35 years.

She was a member of First Church of the Nazarene, where she taught Sunday School for 35 years. She was a member of Van Buren County Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution, Van Buren Retired Teachers Association and Mount Zion Ladies Aid.

Survivors include one son, Lauren SWARTZ of Baker City, Ore.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Alice Virginia GREEN; and one great-grandson.
