Margaret Louise SIMMONS HOERNER, 95, 806 Highland St., died Saturday, April 6, 1996, at Jefferson County Hospital.
The service will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Kenneth Royar officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation is open at Raymond Funeral Home, with the family present from 7 to 8 tonight. Memorials have been established to First United Methodist Church and Fairfield Public Library.
Mrs. HOERNER was born Dec. 20, 1900, at the home of her parents, Eben Frank and Geneva McCOID SIMMONS. A lifetime resident of Fairfield, she graduated from Fairfield High School in 1919, attended Parsons College for three years and graduated from the University of Iowa in 1923. She did post-graduate work at the University of Boulder and at the University of Iowa. On July 26, 1928, she married John A. HOERNER at her parents' home.
She taught school in Mount Union for two years and taught English and Latin at Fairfield High School for seven years. She was a member of Wit and Wisdom Club, DAR and Questers. She was the senior member of First United Methodist Church, which she joined at the age of 10. She was a 75-year member of PEO, a past president of Chapter HA, PEO, and a member of Elziver, Alpha Delta Pi and Pi Kappa Delta. She had been a member of Fairfield Golf and Country Club since 1924 and was the oldest continuing member at the time of her death.
Surviving are a son, Robert J. of Bay Village, Ohio; a daughter, Mary Lou PITZER of Glenwood; six grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and four brothers, James, William, Edward and Beverly Frank SIMMONS.
