BATAVIA - Harold C. URFER, 95, of Batavia, died at 3 p.m. Thursday, April 4, 1996, at his home.
The service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Campbell-Kremer Funeral Home in Batavia, with the Rev. Tony Pulatie officiating. Burial will be in Batavia Cemetery. Open visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Sunday at the funeral home. A Masonic service will be conducted by the Kilwinning Masonic Lodge 198 at 7 that night at the funeral home, with family visitation to follow until 8 p.m. A memorial has been established to Batavia United Methodist Church.
URFER was born Jan. 18, 1901, in Lee County, the son of Edwin and Caroline QUEISNER URFER. He was raised and educated in Fort Madison, graduating from Fort Madison High School. ON July 6, 1926, he married Laura WILSON in Fairfield. He lived most of his adult life in the Batavia area, where he worked as a carpenter and later was a United States postal carrier until his retirement. He attended the Batavia United Methodist Church and was a member of Kilwinning Masonic Lodge 198 in Batavia.
Surviving are his wife; four sisters, Martha Ann GREENWAY and Geraldine GOODMAN, both of Kalamazoo, Mich., Christine LEE of Tacoma, Wash., and Mildred INGRAM of Hastings, Mich. He was preceded in death by a sister, Blanche CRUZE, an a brother, William URFER.
