Merle Eugene COOK

Merle Eugene COOK, 54, of Salem, died Tuesday, April 8, 2014, in Salem.

A funeral is at 10 a.m. Friday at Salem Congregational Church in Salem, with the Rev. Aaron Helterbran officiating. Burial will be in Spencer Cemetery in rural Stockport.

Visitation begins at 2 p.m. Thursday at Murphy Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant, with family present from 6-8 p.m.

A memorial has been established in his memory.

Mr. COOK was born Nov. 27, 1959, in Fairfield, the son of Larry COOK of Fairfield and Walter and Carolyn CHURCH of Salem. He married Linda WATSON May 17, 1980; they later divorced.

He loved going to car races at 34 Raceway and The Nationals at Knoxville. He was an avid NASCAR fan.

Survivors include his children, Dustin COOK and Terra COOK, both of Burlington; two brothers, Brian CHURCH of Atlantic and Kenton CHURCH of Mt. Pleasant; one sister, Jodie BORTF; and his parents, Walter and Carolyn CHURCH of Salem and Larry COOK of Fairfield.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
