Shyla Allison MATTE

Shyla Allison MATTE, age 3, of Leon, Iowa, daughter of Sherrisa DeLea GOODMAN and Michael Ray MATTE, was born in Des Moines, on September 21, 2010. Shyla died on March 5, 2014 in Leon, along with her mother.

Even though her life was too short, Shyla brought so much joy and love to her family. Shyla was truly loved and will always be in the hearts of those she touched.

Preceding Shyla in death were great aunt Kim GOGEL and uncle Andrew MATTE.

Survivors include her father, Michael MATTE of Des Moines; grandparents, Karen and Roger PATE of Fairfield, Iowa; grandparents, Garry MATTE and Val of Hoosick Falls, N.Y.; grandparents, Dennis and Terri GOODMAN of Leon; great-grandparents, Ronald and Judy BARNES of Washington, Iowa; aunt and uncle, Chelsey and Todd HOLDEMAN, 3-year old cousin, Tessa HOLDEMAN; and aunt, Ryan PATE, all of Fairfield; great-aunts, Lori WESTON of Keota, Iowa, and Tammy JAHNKE of West Branch, Iowa; and many cousins.

Joint funeral services for Shyla and her mother Sherrisa were today, Tuesday, March 11, 2014, at Slade-O'Donnell Funeral Home in Leon. Burial was at Franklin Cemetery north of Leon (note: in Decatur Co., IA).

A memorial fund for Shyla and Sherrisa is set up at Great Western Bank, 111 N. Main, Leon, IA 50144 (phone: 641-446-4841.)

Note: Shyla and her mother Sherrisa were two of three victims in a crash with a pickup truck in northern Decatur County, IA. Also killed was Sherrisa's fiancé, Tyler DOWNARD. The Iowa State Patrol believes icy conditions caused Sherrisa to lose control of her vehicle and collide with an oncoming pickup, whose driver received minor injuries.
