Phyllis Jean NELSON

Phyllis Jean NELSON, 60, of Ollie, died Thursday, March 13, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

A funeral is at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 17, 2014, at Ollie Baptist Church with the Rev. Carla Nelson officiating. Burial will be in the Ollie Cemetery (note: in Keokuk Co., IA).

Visitation will be 9:30-10:30 a.m. immediately preceding the service.

Memorials for the Ollie Community Building Repair fund may be left at the church or mailed to the family at 310 S. First St., Ollie 52576.

Arrangements are in the care of the Gould Funeral Home of Richland.

Miss NELSON was born April 23, 1953, in Sigourney, the daughter of Keith and Lola FARIS NELSON.

She attended Ollie grade school and graduated from Pekin Community High School in 1971. She earned a bachelor degree in vocal and instrumental music from Iowa State University in 1976.

She taught band and vocal music in Morning Sun and Collins, Iowa, and band at Steamboat Rock, Shellsburg and Beckman in Dyersville.

She moved to Cedar Rapids and worked.

In 1992, she moved to Orient, Iowa where she again taught band for one year.

She moved to Atlantic in 2004 and to Albia in 2006.

She was a member of the Collins Christian Church.

Survivors include her parents of Ollie; one sister, Anne VAN DER SLOOT of Center Point.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Floyd and Leona FARIS and Jim and Nellie NELSON.
