Warren Vern Bottorff, 82, of Sigourney and formerly of the Ollie and Packwood area, died Monday, March 29, 2004, at the Keokuk County Health Center in Sigourney.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Fremont Funeral Chapel in Fremont, with the Rev. Sharon Benell officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Zion Cemetery north of Martinsburg.

Visitation began this morning at the funeral home. The family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m.

A memorial has been established in Mr. Bottorff's name.

Mr. Bottorff was born June 9, 1921, in Macon, Mo., the son of Emanuel Henry and Orpha Hayes Bottorff. He married Lucille Hollingsworth Aug. 31, 1940, at the Methodist parsonage in Memphis, Mo.

At age 5, Mr. Bottorff moved with his family north of Martinsburg, where he was reared and attended the Martinsburg High School. After high school, he was employed at a factory in Moline, Ill.

After his marriage, he and his wife farmed for the next 50 years in the Hedrick, Agency, Ollie and Packwood areas. In 1986, they retired from farming and moved to Sigourney.

Mr. Bottorff's hobbies included visiting friends, story telling, spending time with family, machine-quilting more than 2,000 quilts and going to the Sigourney coffee shop.

He was a member of the Martinsburg United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife; three children, Carroll Bottorff and wife Holly of Medford, Ore., Judy Kellum and husband Randy of Branson, Mo., and Dixie Singleton and husband Loyed of Russell; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, David Bottorff; and four brothers, Ralph, Robert, Claude and Harry Bottorff.
