Wayne C. "Beezer" Copeland
March 31, 2004Wayne C. "Beezer" Copeland, 73, of Lexington, N.C., and formerly of Fairfield, died Saturday, March 20, 2004, at Lexington Memorial Hospital in Lexington.
Following visitation March 23 at Davidson Funeral Home in Lexington, the funeral was held March 24 at Calvary United Church of Christ in Thomasville, N.C., with the Rev. Dale Sowers officiating. Burial was in Holly Hill Memorial Park in Thomasville.
Memorials may be made to Calvary United Church of Christ at 1410 Lexington Ave., Thomasville, N.C. 27360, or to the Humane Society of Davidson County at PO Box 1791, Lexington, N.C. 27293.
Mr. Copeland was born June 3, 1930, on a farm northwest of Fairfield, the son of J. Clifford and Ruth Downey Copeland. He married Joyce Picklesimer Dec. 9, 1952. She died after 28 years of marriage. He later married Hazel Dean.
He attended Hardscrabble Center No. 5, graduated from Fairfield High School in 1947 and attended one semester at Parsons College.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1948 to 1952.
He was part owner of S.L.C. Motors of Thomasville.
Survivors include his second wife, Hazel Dean Copeland of Lexington; three daughters, Vicki Steed and husband Dale of Thomasville, Michele Blake and husband Toby of Thomasville and Kimberly White and husband Ray of Denton, N.C.; three stepchildren, Sherry Owens and husband Steve of Lexington, Tom Ford and wife Evelyn of Appomattox, Va., and John Ford and wife Carol of Wilmington, N.C.; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; nine stepgrandchildren; four brothers, Carroll Copeland of Fairfield, John "Jack" Copeland of Fairfield, Darrell Copeland of Fairfield and Larry Copeland of Libertyville; and five sisters, Bernice Thompson of Ottumwa, Donna Vice of Agency, Rosalie Rodgers of Des Moines, Carolyn Pool of Birmingham and Rita Copeland of Fairfield.
In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by his parents.
