Dorothy M. SIMMONS

Dorothy M. SIMMONS, 88, 207 W. Washington Ave., died at 1:40 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 5, 1993, at Jefferson County Hospital.

The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kenneth Royar officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Family visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Raymond Funeral Home. A memorial has been established to the First United Methodist Church.

Mrs. SIMMONS was born April 15, 1905, in Fairfield, the daughter of John Henry and Martha Alice BEDINGER HAMMANS. A lifetime resident of Fairfield, she graduated from Fairfield High School in 1922 and attended business college in Fort Madison. She served as a legal secretary for Simmons and Simmons law office for more than 40 years. She married James M. SIMMONS on July 19, 1941, at Lancaster, Mo. He died Feb. 4, 1980. A lifetime member of First United Methodist Church, she was a member of Guild Circle, PEO, and Abracadabra, for which she served as secretary for many years. She served on many community committees, including the board of directors of Libertyville Savings Bank, and for six years as secretary for Greater Jefferson County Foundation.

Surviving are two daughters, Donna J. SANDROCK of Iowa City, Jeannette E. HOPPENRATH of Washington, Ill.; and four grandchildren. A sister, Bessie E. HAMMANS and a brother, Francis HAMMANS, preceded her in death.
