Patricia Regan ARGIRO

PATRICIA REGAN ARGIRO, 67, of 200 West Madison Ave., Fairfield, died at 3 p.m., October 31, 2001, in Jefferson County Hospital.

She was born March 27, 1934, in Fort Barancas, Florida to Joseph Regan and Zellie Regan WRIGHT. She married Nicholas Thomas ARGIRO in Syracruse, NY on June 14, 1952. Mr. ARGIRO died in Ottumwa on Feb. 2, 1998 (sic - Feb. 4, 1998 per the SSDI).

Mrs. ARGIRO moved to Fairfield in 1993 to be nearer her children and grandchildren, after retiring from a 21-year career as a reporter, photographer, columnist and Associate Editor for Hudson Valley Newspapers, Inc. of New York State. Her weekly column, BRANCHING, was a readers' favorite in the newspapers, and served as the basis of her 1999 book of essays by the same name.

Her poetry and prose have appeared in the periodicals Idiom, Echoes, The Plough, Intalgio, and multiple times in the annual anthology Lyrical Iowa. Her first book of poems, Spheres, was self-published in 1979. She produced a total of five artist's books, combining her poetry with art work.

Her serigraphs, photographs, drawings, artist's books, and mosaics have appeared in one-person and group show, and are in many private collections. She has given poetry readings and lectures at SUNY, New Paltz, where she received her BA cum laude in 1968, as well as numerous other locations in New York and Iowa.

Surviving are daughter Elisa Maria ARGIRO, sons Vincent ARGIRO and Jason ARGIRO, grandsons Michael and Teagan ARGIRO.

She was preceded in death by her brother Barry DOWNING and her sister Ann GREEN.

A memorial and requiem mass for friends, family and well-wishers will be celebrated at St. Gabriel and All Angels Liberal Catholic Church at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 3 by Father Tom Miller.
