Viola N. DAVIS LOUTH

NEW LONDON - Viola N. DAVIS LOUTH, 78, of New London, formerly of Ottumwa and Fairfield, died at 4:40 p.m. Monday, Oct. 18, 1993, at New London Care Center.

The service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Reece Funeral Home in Ottumwa with the Rev. A.D. Pringle officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery. Visitation is open after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the family present from 7 to 8:30 that night. A memorial has been established to New London Care Center.

Mrs. LOUTH was born April 22, 1915, in Hiteman, the daughter of George and Nora HOWARD SHIELDS. She married Stanley H. DAVIS on Oct. 11, 1932. He died May 22, 1959. On Aug. 31, 1962, she married Chester P. LOUTH of Fairfield, who died in 1985. A resident of Ottumwa most of her life, she had lived in New London since 1983. For a short time after her marriage to LOUTH, they lived in Fairfield where she operated a restaurant. She had worked in numerous cafes in Ottumwa and owned and operated the U and I Cafe on Market Street. She was employed by Derringer in Amboy, Ill., before her retirement. She was a member of O.B. Nelson Unit No. 3, American Legion Auxiliary.

Surviving are two sons, Harold DAVIS of Ottumwa, Wayne DAVIS of New London; two stepsons, Ronald LOUTH of Birmingham, Richard LOUTH of Colorado; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren; a brother, Everett SHIELDS of Ottumwa; two sisters, Ethel JACOBS of Ottumwa and Helen NEIL of Des Moines. A daughter, Norma Georgette SIMMS, a granddaughter, a stepgrandchild, and a brother, George I. SHIELDS preceded her in death.
