Lela M. BARKER

Lela M. BARKER, 88, formerly of Douds, died at 8:55 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 23, 2014, at Good Samaritan Society-Van Buren in Keosauqua where she had resided since 2009.

Arrangements are pending at Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds.

Lela Mae BARKER

Lela Mae BARKER, 88, formerly of Douds, died Sunday, Feb. 23, 2014, at Good Samaritan Society-Van Buren in Keosauqua, where she had resided since 2009.

A funeral is at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Christ United Methodist Church in Douds, with the Rev. Mark Young officiating. Burial will be in Greenglade Cemetery in Farmington (note: in Van Buren Co., IA).

Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds, and again, with family present, from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Friday at the church, an hour prior to the funeral.

Memorials to Christ United Methodist Church may be left at the church or mailed to the family at 7995 LIV 237, Chilicothe, MO 64601.

Pedrick Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Mrs. BARKER was born Feb. 18, 1926, near Farmington, the daughter of Floyd and Mable FINE BOYER. She married William H. BARKER Aug. 23, 1975, in Farmington. He died Feb 28, 1995.

She graduated from Farmington High School.

She graduated from Iowa Wesleyan College in Mt. Pleasant and earned her master's degree at Northeast Missouri State Teachers College. now Truman State University in Kirksville, Mo.

She taught in rural Van Buren County at Bonaparte and Farmington schools.

She and her husband lived in Douds.

She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church.

She belonged to United Methodist Women and Twin City Chapter No. 258, Order of the Eastern Star and had held offices in each. She had been a Rebekah.

She was a member of Van Buren County Retired Teachers Association and was active in the Douds senior meal program.

Survivors include five nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Viola VonSEGGEN.
