Marjorie Marie Messer
March 29, 2004Marjorie Marie Messer, 90, of 1102 W. Carpenter Ave., died at 2:10 a.m. Sunday, March 28, 2004, at Vista Woods Care Center in Ottumwa.
The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Marvin Robeck officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at First Lutheran Church after the burial. Open visitation will be Tuesday afternoon at Raymond Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church, Vista Woods Care Center's aviary fund or Hospice of Davis and Wapello Counties.
Mrs. Messer and her twin sister Margaret were born Sept. 14, 1913, the first twins born in Jefferson County Hospital in Fairfield. She was the daughter of Alfred P. and Iva Cooper-Miller Rodenmayer. She married Carl J. Messer Feb. 5, 1935, at First Lutheran Church. He died Oct. 9, 2001.
Mrs. Messer was a 1932 graduate of Fairfield High School.
She drove a school bus for the Fairfield Community School District and sold Avon products.
She was an active member of First Lutheran Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher and president of the Lutheran Church Women's Bertha Rex Circle.
She was a 4-H leader of the Clover Leaf Lassies and served on the Extension Council.
She was a member of the Good Cheer Society, the Merry Makers and Order of Eastern Star.
She enjoyed cooking, traveling, entertaining in her home and making handicrafts.
Survivors include two daughters, Carol Messer of Fairfield and Janet Messer of Jacksonville, Fla.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Alfred, Harold and Glenn Rodenmayer; and twin sister, Margaret Miksch.
