Howard I. STORTZ

Howard I. STORTZ, 70, of Mount Pleasant, former area resident, died at 7:47 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 4, 1996, at Henry County Health Care Center in Mount Pleasant.

The service will be a 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Hope Lutheran Church, Germanville, with the Rev. Orville Walters officiating. Burial will be in Hope Lutheran Cemetery. Family visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Behner Funeral Home. A memorial has been established to Hope Lutheran Church.

STORTZ was born May 6, 1925, in Germanville, the son of Irven and Ethel MESSENGER STORTZ. On June 2, 1946, he married Bettye Ruth OGDEN in Libertyville. He had lived most of his life on a farm in Walnut Township in Jefferson County, until moving to Mount Pleasant five years ago. He was a self-employed farmer and mechanic, and a member of Hope Lutheran Church.

Surviving are his wife; three sons, Richard I. of Mount Pleasant, Jim A. of Erie, Ill., David H. of Cedar Rapids; a daughter, Kathy Ann KERKMAN of Atkins; seven grandchildren; and a sister, Lucile WOLFE of Brighton. His parents; a sister, Irene ELMORE; and an infant brother, Gilbert, preceded him in death.
