Marcella 'Sally' ARNDT

Marcella E. "Sally" ARNDT, 81, of Fairfield died Monday, Jan. 27, 2014, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

Cremation has been accorded and interment of cremains will be at a later date.

A memorial Mass is scheduled at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Fairfield, with the Rev. Nick Adam officiating.

A rosary will be recited at 5 p.m. Friday at the church, with visitation of family and friends to follow until 7:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to the Cancer Fund. Online condolences may be sent to www.raymondfuneralhomes.com.

Arrangements are in the care of the Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield.

Mrs. ARNDT was born May 21, 1932, in Salem, the sixth of seven children born to Fred and Veronica MENKE BENTLER. She married Francis J. ARNDT Nov. 18, 1961, at Saint John's Catholic Church in Houghton.

Mrs. ARNDT graduated from Houghton High School in 1950. She was employed as a bookkeeper at the Mount Hamill Elevator for several years.

Mrs. ARNDT moved to Fairfield after her marriage.

She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church for more than 50 years. She spent many years helping with funeral dinners at the church, volunteering at Parkview Care Center, The Lord's Cupboard and The Bargain Box.

Mrs. ARNDT did housekeeping for many years.

She was an avid card player, with her family. She loved to walk the country roads near her rural Fairfield home and often referred to it as her own heaven on earth. She was a dedicated gardener, homemaker and word-search fan. She enjoyed watching Fairfield High School basketball games.

Mrs. ARNDT often stated her greatest accomplishments were her marriage of 52 years and the three children she and her husband raised.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers: Alphonse BENTLER and Gervase BENTLER; and one sister: Pauline PIEPER.

Survivors include her husband; children: Joe ARNDT and wife Ronda of Fairfield, Jean AUDAS and husband Milton of Muscatine, and Richard ARNDT and wife Kari of Sauk City, Wis.; two grandchildren; and two sisters: Roselita BROWN and Eileen HELLMAN; and one brother: Raymond BENTLER.
