Clara M. WHITCANACK, 89, of Keosauqua, died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014, at Good Samaritan Society-Van Buren in Keosauqua.

Arrangements are pending at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua.

Clara Mae WHITCANACK

Clara Mae WHITCANACK, 89, of Keosauqua died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014, at Good Samaritan Society-Van Buren in Keosauqua.

A funeral is at 11 a.m. Monday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, with the Rev. Bill Shewmaker officiating. Burial will be in Lebanon Cemetery, west of Keosauqua (note: in Van Buren County, IA).

Visitation with family present is 10-11 a.m. Monday, prior to the service.

Memorials to Lebanon Cemetery or Keosauqua Christian Church may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 422 Avenue F, Fort Madison 52627.

Mrs. WHITCANACK was born Jan. 24, 1924, in Fairfield, the daughter of Charlie and Iola CHAPUIS JOHNSTON. She married Rex A. WHITCANACK Aug. 18, 1943, in Fairfield. He died Oct. 6, 2007.

She graduated from Cantril High School.

She graduated from Parsons College in Fairfield.

She worked many years in Story County Treasurer's office in Nevada, Iowa, where the WHITCANACKs lived until moving to Keosauqua in 2006.

Survivors include two sons, Lee WHITCANACK and spouse Joyce of Sheldon and Lex WHITCANACK and spouse Marie of Fort Madison; one daughter, Elisa BULLOCK and spouse David of Poughkeepsie, N.Y.; two grandsons; three great-grandchildren; two step grandchildren; six step great -grandchildren; and one brother, Ralph JOHNSTON of Edina, Mo.

In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents.
