"MRS. STEWART DEAD: AGED 92. Mrs. Barbara Stewart died Saturday evening at 9:10 o’clock…..at the home of her son, Samuel Stewart, in the south west part of the city…..Barbara Schaffer Stewart was born in Virginia September 13, 1816, and grew to young womanhood there. At the age of 19 years she was united in marriage to Henry Stewart at Portland, Ohio. To them were born 11 children, all but 3 of whom with their father have already crossed the river of death. In the fall of 1853 Mr. and Mrs. Stewart and family moved to Iowa and settled on a farm near Glasgow, where they lived until about 25 years ago, when they moved to Fairfield. Mr. Stewart passed away about 15 years ago, and Mrs. Stewart spent the last years of her life with her son, Samuel Stewart and family. Although she had lived to such a ripe old age, Mrs. Stewart’s mental faculties did not desert her. She was able even to the last few days of her life, to recall the names and residences of her distant friends. Mrs. Stewart leaves to mourn her departure three sons, John of Chillicothe, Mo.; Hezekiah of Kansas City, Kansas, and Samuel of this city…..She was a member of the Free Methodist Church and had spent her life in doing good to those around her…..The remains will be interred in Evergreen Cemetery beside the helpmeet of her youth."
