“DEATH OF A PIONEER. Daniel Fiedler, a pioneer settler of Jefferson County, died at his home in Round Prairie Township Monday. He had been in ill health for several years, but his death was directly due to injuries received in a fall from a horse about two weeks ago. Mr. Fiedler was a native of Schuylkill county, Penn., and was born January 4, 1818. He came to this county in 1838, and has made his home here ever since, with the exception of a few years spent in the mines of California and Colorado. He was twice married in this county, and his second wife, formerly Miss Miller, survives him. Ira W., a son by his first marriage, lives at Mt. Pleasant. Three daughters, Mrs. E.D.Y. Culbertson of Des Moines, Mrs. Perry H. Monfort and Mrs. W.E. Bradshaw of this county, are also living. During the active years of his life Mr. Fiedler was one of the largest farmers and stock growers in the county and managed a large tract of land. His home was a most hospitable one and was the scene of many happy events. He was a good man and citizen and a prominent factor in the affairs of the community from an early date……Funeral services will be held today at his home, and the Masons will have charge of the exercises.”
