Frances Fern MARTIN

Frances Fern MARTIN, 96, of Fairfield, died Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013, at Sunnybrook Living Care Center in Fairfield.

A funeral is at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield, with the Rev. Frosty Van Voorst officiating. Interment is at Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield.

Family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials have been established to First Christian Church, Hospice Compassus or to Evergreen Cemetery.

Mrs. MARTIN was born Oct. 25, 1917, at home in Parsonsville, east of Fairfield, the daughter of Chester L. and Florence Minnie HOLLANDER HICKENBOTTOM. She married Carl I. MARTIN Feb. 22, 1938, at her parents home. He died Nov. 12, 1990. She married Paul E. KITCHEN Oct. 25, 1991, at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Fairfield. He died in March 2001.

She grew up in the Parsonsville community, attended Round Prairie School No. 6 and graduated from Fairfield High School.

She lived west of Fairfield and in Hillsboro and in Batavia before moving to Fairfield in 1982.

She was a homemaker and worked for many years as a nurse's aide at Jefferson County Hospital and worked with hospice care.

She was a member of First Christian Church.

She was a member of Jefferson County Hospital Auxiliary and neighborhood clubs.

Survivors include two sons, John MARTIN of Milan, Ill., and Dean MARTIN and spouse Julie of Bonaire, Ga.; three stepdaughters, Janet ROBERTS and spouse Wade, Marilyn TURNER and spouse Bill, all of Fairfield and Carolyn WELLINGS and spouse Norman of Oskaloosa; 11 grandchildren ;12 stepgrandchildren; and several great-grandchildren, stepgreat-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her two husbands, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Nancy BUCKINGHAM; her parents; six brothers, Vern, Virgil, Marshall, Leslie, Hugh and John HICKENBOTTOM; and a stepdaughter, Joyce JONES.
