Eithel E. Gookin, 77, of 1404 S. Maple St., died at 12:50 p.m. Monday, March 8, 2004, at Jefferson County Hospital.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Jim Wotherspoon officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Friday at the Chariton Cemetery in Chariton.

Family visitation will be from 6:30-8 p.m. Thursday at Behner Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church.

Mrs. Gookin was born Jan. 5, 1927, in rural Chariton, the daughter of Harley and Golda Agan Shore. She married Leland B. Gookin June 6, 1948, in Chariton.

Mrs. Gookin had lived in the Fairfield community for 53 years. She graduated from Chariton High School in the class of 1944 and attended classes at Drake University. She was the middle school secretary for the Fairfield Community School District for 24 years.

Mrs. Gookin was a member of First Baptist Church and Maxine Bates Circle. In her church activities, she was an organist and pianist and a Sunday school teacher. She was a member of the S.A.L.T. Group and Questers. She and her husband were members of the Weakenders Camping Group.

Survivors include her husband; one daughter, Denise J. Nelson and husband Donald of Nevada, Mo.; one son, Myron Gookin and wife Ann of Fairfield; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and three sisters, Luella Bebout of Newton, Aletha Feight of Chariton and Elaine Keeney of Chariton.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Raymond Shore.
