Richard Joseph "Ric" Kessel, 45, of Richland, died Saturday, March 6, 2004, near Richland, the result of an auto accident.

The body has been cremated. Visitation and sharing, with the family present, will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Fremont Funeral Chapel in Fremont.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for his daughter, Briale.

Mr. Kessel was born Sept. 18, 1958, in Fairfield, the son of Clyde Joseph and Trilla Weber Kessel Wonderlich. He married Tracy Trader. They later divorced.

Mr. Kessel was raised in the Hedrick area and graduated from Hedrick High School in 1977. He was employed at Clow Corporation in Oskaloosa for 13 years. After working at Clow he attended truck driving school at Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa. He then was employed by several different companies. His hobbies included Nascar, mud racing, four-wheelers and dirt bikes. He was a fan of Dale Earnhardt Sr. and Jr., and enjoyed planting roses and playing jokes on people.

Mr. Kessel was a member of Mother Cabrini Catholic Church in Richland.

Survivors include his mother, of Ollie; his grandmother, Lucille Weber of Ollie; one sister, Cecilia Adam of Richland; one daughter, Briale Kessel of Richland; two stepsons, Derrick and Cody Trader of Davenport; three stepbrothers, Don, Jeff and Terry Wonderlich of Ollie; and special friend Carla Lankford of Richland.

He was preceded in death by his father; one brother, Cris Kessel; and his stepfather, Keith Wonderlich.
