Death Takes G. GARDNER

George A. GARDNER, 81, retired Dexter Co. employe, died at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at the Ottumwa Hospital where he had been a patient two days.

Before entering the hospital he had been a patient at the Jefferson Square Manor in Ottumwa for three months. His former Fairfield residence was rural route 4.

Last rites will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Raymond Funeral Home with the Rev. Melburn Sorenson officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

George A. GARDNER was born Dec. 18, 1891 in Warren, Wis., the son of Frank and Anna WHIPPLE GARDNER. He was reared and educated in Wisconsin.

His marriage to Stella PAGE took place January, 1926. She died in February, 1953. He married Sarah Ellen BURNETT Sept. 4, 1955, and she died Oct. 11, 1973.

GARDNER was a member of the Presbyterian Church and the American Legion. He was a veteran of World War I.

He is survived by a brother, Frank, Sedalia, Mo.; two nieces and two nephews; one step-daughter, Mrs. Roscoe MEEKER, Fair Grove, Mo.; two stepsons, Chester BURNETT, Agency, and Cecil BURNETT, Bennett; along with step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by five brothers and one sister.
