The Fairfield Ledger, July 11, 1888, Page 3, col. 4, TOWN & COUNTY.
The death of Evan T. Hardin occurred at his home near Cambridge, Nebraska, June 15, 1888, in the 65th year of his age. Mr. Hardin was a former citizen of Fairfield and has relatives residing here -- George Craine and others. He was a citizen here as early as 1841, and enlisted in this place for the Mexican War, but the regiment was not taken out of the state. He was a soldier in the 29th regiment Iowa Volunteers and served until the close of the war. For several years he has been in failing health. About a year ago he visited Fairfield and said then it would be his last visit. He was one of a family of ten children, and only one of them now remains. His disease developed into dropsy of the blood.
