March 03, 2004Elmer Sellers, 85, of Mount Sterling died Monday, March 1, 2004, in Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Ill.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka, Mo., with Leon Buford officiating. Burial, with full military rites, will be in Combs Cemetery at Luray, Mo.
Visitation began at 1:30 p.m. today at the funeral home, The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Mr. Sellers was born Nov. 7, 1918, in Memphis, Mo., the son of Edwin R. and Lottie E. White Sellers. He married Erma Herring March 26, 1949, in Kahoka.
Mr. Sellers graduated from Kahoka High School. He was employed by Lockheed Aircraft Corporation in Burbank, Calif., until entering the United States Navy in December 1943. He was an aviation metal smith until his discharge in April 1946.
He had been a farmer in the Mount Sterling area for more than 55 years and had raised cattle until this past year.
He was a bowler and golfer, loved being on the farm, outdoors and taking grandchildren on four-wheeler rides.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Gary Sellers and wife Elodie of Fairfield and Randy Sellers and wife Marla of Lenexa, Kan.; one daughter, Linda Lamer and husband Darrell of Salina, Kan.; one brother, Sylvan "Red" Sellers of Kahoka; one sister, Marguerite LaMaster of Keokuk; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Clarence "Ted" Sellers.
