Mary Elizabeth "Betty" LATHROP

Mary Elizabeth "Betty" LATHROP, 80, of Mount Pleasant died at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2004, at the New London Care Center.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield, with Guy Sammons officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:30-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials have been established to Great River Hospice of Burlington.

Mrs. Lathrop was born Feb. 26, 1923, in Trenton, the daughter of Walter Eugene and Alice Hester RIDINGER LYONS. She married Ernest Wesley LATHROP July 1, 1939. He died May 1, 1978.

Mrs. LATHROP grew up in the Trenton-Merrimac community. She attended Sharp's Corner rural school. She lived in Memphis, Mo., where she married her husband, and was a resident of Fairfield for 61 years before moving to Mount Pleasant in July.

She worked at Universal Producing Company in Fairfield for 30 years.

Her pastimes included her family, fishing, collecting angels, flower gardening and embroidering.

Survivors include one daughter, Karen ANDERSON of Mount Pleasant; one son, Jack LATHROP and wife Patty of Fairfield; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mildred MANNING of Fairfield and Dorothy GRIEST of Mount Pleasant.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Delores CAVIN; one son, Mike LATHROP; one grandson; one great-grandson; one great-granddaughter; three brothers, Walter, Stanley and Jack Lyons; and one sister, Margaret EDWARDS.
