Jan. 26, 1887, 3-7DEATH OF WM. YOUNG.
At Eldon, Iowa, on the 13th (?) inst., occurred the death of Wm. Young, for many years a resident of Jefferson County. He was born in Barron county, Ky., in 1819, and came west in the fall of ’43 or spring of ’44, locating in the vicinity of Libertyville. A year or so later he removed to the vicinity of County Line, in Des Moines township, where he resided almost continuously until his death. The deceased was unmarried. In an early day he engaged in the work of teaching in the common schools, and also in the special work of teaching penmanship, in which art he was expert in his time. In these occupations he found employment in various parts of the state, always, however, considering Des Moines township his home. Owing to a failure of sight, he was compelled in later years to abandon teaching, engaging then in farming. A man of marked intelligence and quiet, unassuming worth, he was respected and esteemed by all who knew him. He was a member of the Baptist church, which organization he joined in Kentucky in his 18th year. He leaves to mourn his loss as sister, Mrs. HARRISON of Des Moines township, and two brothers. His death ..... occurred at the residence of J. I. Conger, at Eldon. The remains were interred at the Dunn cemetery at County Line, funeral services being conducted at the church by Rev. Stonacher...
