OBITUARY

MRS. SARAH E. BATES

Sarah E. KERR, seventh of the eight children of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew KERR was born in Jefferson County, Iowa November 5, 1850. She lived to be 81 years 10 months and 2 days old, passing away at her home in Fairfield on Wednesday September 7 1932. All of her life was spent in Jefferson county except 15 years of her girlhood when she lived in Wayne county.

On December 4, 1879 (sic - December 3, 1874) she was married to Jeremiah Bates and lived happily in this union till hep assed (sic) away on July 30, 1879. Two children were born to them, Myrtle and Perry M. Mrs. BATES is survived by her two children, Mrs. Myrtle HYDE and Perry M. BATES, both of Fairfield. Four grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren survive with one sister Mrs. Jas. FEAGIN of Alliance, Neb. Besides those there are a large number of relatives and friends who will mourn her passing.

Mrs. BATES was a member of the Christian church and found much joy in her faith in Jesus Christ. In the latter days sickness prevented her attendance at the church services but she loved to think of her Saviour. She was baptized by Rev. Sam Ross, for some time pastor of the first Christian church of this city. Mrs. BATES has been sick for some time and the end was not unexpected. Loving hands cared for her wants and medical skill gave of its best to prolong her life but she passed away last Wednesday at 9 o'clock.

Funeral services were held by Rev. S. P. Williamson, minister of the First Christian church at the Hoskins Funeral Home last Friday. The pall bearers were nephews of Mrs. BATES. Mrs. Williamson sang the hymns and Miss Reva Patten accompanied her. The remains were interred in Evergreen Cemetery.
