Jeremiah BATES, well known in this county, died very suddenly at his home near Perlee, July 30th. He had been ailing for some time but was not considered seriously ill. After eating dinner Wednesday, he was suddenly taken worse, and died in a few minutes. Mr. BATES was in the 31st year of his age and leaves a wife and two children.

Perlee and Vicinity.

… --Our old friend, Ephraim BATES, has been very sick this summer, but is up and about again. General debility and derangement of the nervous system was the cause.

-- With sadness and sorrow we record the death of Mr. Jerry H. BATES, which occurred at his residence in the north part of Fairfield township on Wednesday afternoon of last week. He had been having chills and fever for two or three months past, but not badly. On the day of his death he ate a hearty dinner, and went into an adjoining room, sat down upon the floor and played with his two little children for a few minutes, got up and went into another room and fell across the bed. His wife and sister, who were in an adjoining room, heard him make a queer noise. They ran and found him dying. Some think it was congestion of the stomach, and some think it heart disease. Mr. BATES was the eldest son of Mr. Ephraim BATES. He was born in Lockridge township, Jefferson county, Iowa, and was in his thirty-first year. He leaves a loving wife, a daughter and son, and many relatives and friends to mourn his loss. We think of him as one of the strong pillars of society, honest, industrious and persevering. He was followed by a large concourse of friends to the Richwood's cemetery, where his remains, with due respect, were interred. His spirit has gone to that other world where death and sorrow never come, where peace, tranquility and happiness reign supreme.
