Eugene Nelson Robinson
February 16, 2004Eugene Nelson Robinson, 80, of Cantril, died at 12:50 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 15, 2004, at Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua.
The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Cantril United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Raymond Doser officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Cantril.
Open visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, with the family present from 7-8 p.m.
Memorials to Cantril Grass Roots for the Waubonsie Trail Park may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at PO Box 191, Cantril 52541.
Mr. Robinson was born Oct. 28, 1923, in Scotland County, Mo., the son of Dee and Sybil Reck Robinson. He married Ruby Emogene Woods Nov. 4, 1944, in Kahoka, Mo.
Mr. Robinson farmed in Scotland County, Mo., and Davis and Van Buren counties in Iowa until moving to Cantril in 1969 where he operated a service station and tank wagon service. He also operated a bulldozer for many years and, with his wife, managed an apartment complex in Madelia, Minn., from 1986-89. He also was an outdoorsman who hunted, fished and searched for Native American artifacts.
He was a member of Cantril United Methdist Church, an honorary member of United Methodist Women, a past member of Milton and Cantril Lions Clubs and the Happy Hour Club, and was a member of Cantril Grass Roots, Town and Country Card Club and National Rifle Association.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Raymond and wife Sandra of Fernald and Ronald and wife Connie of Cantril; four grandsons; and one sister, Frances Brown of Cantril.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Stanley.
