Maxine E. HUGHES

Maxine E. HUGHES, 95, of Pittsburg, died at 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2013, at Good Samaritan Society-Van Buren in Keosauqua.

The body has been cremated.

Memorial service arrangements are pending at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua.

Maxine Evelyn HUGHES

Maxine Evelyn ELLIOTT HUGHES, 95, of Keosauqua died at 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2013, at Good Samaritan Society-Van Buren, Keosauqua.

Per her wishes, the body has been cremated. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Center Chapel United Methodist Church, southeast of Keosauqua, with the Rev. Douglas Harding officiating. Burial of cremains will be in Center Chapel United Methodist Cemetery following the service.

Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua is handling the arrangements.

Mrs. HUGHES was born Aug. 16, 1917, in Muscatine, the daughter of Leonard and Cora GASTON ELLIOTT. She married Roscoe HUGHES March 23, 1939.

Mrs. HUGHES grew up and attended school in Donnellson. She and her husband moved to the family acreage in Pittsburg in 1949 where they raised three children.

She was a member of the Keosauqua United Methodist Church. She was very involved in the Pittsburg community, and she wrote three booklets on its folklore and history.

Survivors include one daughter, Roxie BOLLINGER and husband Jon of Springfield, Mo.; one sister, Edith ELLIOTT TWEEDY; three granddaughters; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her husband and two sons, Ron and Don HUGHES.
