Evelyn Marion BROWN

Evelyn Marion BROWN, 89, of 3000 W. Madison Ave., Fairfield died at 3:10 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2004, at Jefferson County Hospital.

The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Mike Metz and the Rev. Tim Phillips officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Family visitation will be held from 6:30-8 p.m. Thursday at Behner Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church for the bell choir.

Mrs. BROWN was born May 16, 1914, in Marion, the daughter of Claude and Grace TOMPKINS JAMES. She married Floyd L. BROWN Oct. 3, 1933, in Adel. He died Feb. 22, 1985.

Mrs. BROWN graduated from Valley High School in Des Moines. She and her husband owned and operated Browns Cafe in North English. She worked as a saleswoman at Sorden Music Company for eight years and at Handy Pantry for four years. She has been a Fairfield resident for the past 38 years. Her pastimes included arts and crafts.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the church Guild Club, Fairfield Womens Club, Jefferson County Hospital Auxiliary, the Walton Club, the weekly pitch club, Stephens Prayer Club, was associated with Health and Awareness, a member of Solitaires and book club.

Survivors include one daughter, Bernice DRISCOLL of DeWitt; two sons, Claude BROWN and wife Lorelee of Fairfield and Steve BROWN and wife Joan of Keokuk; 11 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one son-in-law, Thomas DRISCOLL; and one great-grandchild.
