Pansy Gillis, 95, of Richland died at 9:42 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2004, at Jefferson County Hospital following a brief illness.

The body has been donated for scientific purposes to the Des Moines University. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Trinity Friends Church in Richland with Stephen Topping, Randy Ozan, Jim Cluney and Dean Elmore officiating. Burial will be in Richland Friends Cemetery at a later date.

Family visitation will be held from 6:30-8 p.m. Thursday at Gould Funeral Home in Richland.

At Mrs. Gillis' request, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a favorite charity.

A general memorial has been established and memorials may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 30235 320th Ave., Richland 52585.

Mrs. Gillis was born in Ollie, the daughter of William E. and Mary E. Downing Derby. She married Sanford Earl Gillis Jan. 16, 1932. He died July 27, 1996.

Mrs. Gillis attended Valley County School. She was a farm wife for many years and worked at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown, Advance Ross Electronics in Washington, Iowa, and more recently at Southeast Multi-County Solid Waste Agency Landfill near Richland. She was known as "Grandma Pansy."

She was a member of Solid Rock Fellowship in Richland.

Survivors include two sons, Ivan Gillis of Carmel, Calif., and Roger Gillis and wife Sharon of Ainsworth; one daughter, Mary Ann McReynolds and husband Bob of Richland; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Lloyd Derby of Davenport and Harold Derby of Brighton.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Bacil, Henry, Ralph and Elmer Derby; and one sister, Pearl Moody.
