Walter E. CARLSON, 70, rural Ottumwa, died at 9:11 a.m. Tuesday at Veterans Administration Medical Center in Iowa City.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at New Sweden Methodist Church near Lockridge with the Rev. Charles Sloca officiating. Burial with military rites will be in New Sweden Cemetery. Family visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Behner Funeral Home. Memorials have been established to the American Cancer Society and New Sweden Methodist Church.
Carlson was born April 12, 1917 in Jefferson County, the son of Ross W. and Nelle Mae HILL CARLSON. He married Dema MORROW June 10, 1947. She died June 6, 1968. In August, 1979, he married Myrtle JORDAN, who survives.
Also surviving are four sons, Wayne, Lockridge; Donald, Des Moines; Harold, Fairfield; Emer, Mount Pleasant; a daughter, Donna POHREN, Lockridge; 14 grandchildren; several stepchildren, and two brothers, Norris CARLSON, Lockridge, and Vincent CARLSON, Tipton.
CARLSON has been a carpenter and construction worker before his retirement. He was a World War II veteran of the Army Air Corps.
