Daniel L. HIX, 32, of 702 W. Harrison Ave., died at 1:05 a.m. today at University Hospitals in Iowa City as a result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound at his home late Wednesday night.
HIX was born Jan. 29, 1955, in Jefferson County, the son of Kenneth and Ava WEYENETH HIX. He was a lifelong Jefferson County resident.
HIX was a member of First United Methodist Church and a graduate of the 1973 Fairfield High School class. His hobbies included golf and sports.
He is survived by his parents, Kenneth and Ava HIX of Fairfield; a brother, the Rev. Duane HIX of Hudson, N.Y.; and three sisters, Gail GEVOCK of Des Moines, Joyce BRODIE of Des Moines and Kathy BAKER of Fairfield.
Funeral services for HIX tentatively have been set for Saturday morning at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Clair Odell and the Rev. Jerry Miller officiating. The casket will be closed. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church or to the donor's choice.
