DEATH TAKES DR. T. J. BATES

Thomas Jefferson BATES, retired veterinarian, passed away this morning at Jefferson county hospital following a stroke he suffered last Saturday. He had been in ill health for several years. Dr. BATES was 87 years old at the time of his death.

The body was taken to the Monger funeral home where last rites are pending.

Dr. BATES was born July 19, 1858 at Salina, the son of the late Jeremiah and Mary Ann BATES. He was reared and educated in Jefferson county and later attended the Iowa State College at Ames.

He is survived by wife, two daughters, Mrs. Maude PARSONS and Mrs. Anna SHANSTROM, both of Fairfield; one son Victor BATES, Fairfield; two grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren.

Dr. BATES was preceded in death by one daughter, Mrs. Nellie HAGUE, who passed away in 1927.
