Florence Marie Jacobs
February 10, 2004Florence Marie Jacobs, 88, of Ottumwa, formerly of Eldon, died at 6:19 p.m. Monday, Feb. 2, 2004, at Hospice House of Ottumwa.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Forest Home Cemetery in Mount Pleasant, with the Rev. Connie Markle officiating. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery.
Open visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds, with the family present from 4-5 p.m.
Memorials to Hospice House of Ottumwa may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 1320 N. Wapello St., Ottumwa 52501.
Mrs. Jacobs was born Jan. 15, 1916, in Henry County, the daughter of Joseph Albert "Bert" and Nola Whittlesey Bird. She married Gene Jacobs June 12, 1953 in Denver, Colo. He died Dec. 1, 1981.
Mrs. Jacobs grew up in Henry County and attended rural schools. She lived in Fort Carson, Colo., Germany and Fort Bragg, N.C. while her husband was in the Army. They retired to Eldon in 1961 and she moved to Ottumwa to live with her daughter in 2001.
Mrs. Jacobs was a member of Eldon United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women, Bay View Reading Club, Eldon Lioness Club, and Gothic Area Tourism of Eldon organization.
Survivors include one daughter, Mary Turner and husband James of Ottumwa; one granddaughter; one great-granddaughter; and one brother, Lester Bird of Denver, Colo.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Lyle, Merle and Ronald Bird; and one sister, Mildred Dietrich.
