Bettijean Swan, 84, of Libertyville died at 2 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 5, 2004, at Jefferson County Hospital.

The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Feb. 16 at Libertyville United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Thomas Raphael-Nakos officiating. Burial will be in Fell Cemetery near Libertyville.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at Raymond Funeral Home.

Memorials have been established to Libertyville United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Swan was born July 7, 1919, in Libertyville, the daughter of Fred and Effie Carmichael Johnston. She married Rex Austin Swan Oct. 1, 1940, in Kahoka, Mo. He died May 27, 1996.

Mrs. Swan was a lifetime resident of the Libertyville community. She graduated from Libertyville High School and received her nursing degree from the Burlington Nursing Academy. She was a registered nurse from 1938 until her retirement in 1986. She worked in Mount Pleasant until 1954, at Jefferson County Hospital until 1977 and then to Parkview Care Center until 1986. Her pastimes included gardening.

She was a member of Libertyville United Methodist Church.

Survivors include one daughter, Janet Isern of Amarillo, Texas; two sons, Gail Swan and wife Diane and Terry Swan and wife Deb, all of Libertyville; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Elinor Fordyce of Libertyville and Martha Carlson of Winfield.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Dixie Corlett; and three brothers, Walter, Howard and Frank Johnston.
