February 06, 2004Martha Marie Filson, 66, of 11804 Osage Ave., Birmingham, died at 6:50 a.m. today, Friday, Feb. 6, 2004, at Jefferson County Hospital.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Raymond Funeral Home in Birmingham, with the Rev. Mike Renken officiating. Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery in Birmingham.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home in Birmingham.
Memorials have been established to the Birmingham United Methodist Church or to the Birmingham Fire Department.
Mrs. Filson was born Sept. 20, 1937, in Ottumwa, the daughter of Clarence and Gertrude Thomas Holcomb. She married Raymond Filson Feb. 2, 1967.
She grew up in the Pekin community and graduated from Packwood High School in 1956. She lived in Fairfield before moving to the Birmingham community, where she had been a resident for 37 years.
A homemaker, she had formerly worked at the Fairfield Glove Company.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Fred Filson and wife Janice of Libertyville and Doug Filson of California; one daughter, Donna Burmiester and husband Bill of Logan; five grandchildren; and 10 siblings, Junior Holcomb of Mount Union, Harry Holcomb of Clinton, Mo., Grant Holcomb of Florence, Ariz., Jim Holcomb of Fairfield, Gertrude "Trudy" Hay and Sarah Poos, both of St. Petersburg, Fla., Jack Holcomb of Rochester, Ind., Velma Hummell of Burlington, Thelma White of Iowa City and Mable Hart of Agency.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
