Dorothy B. WOOD

Dorothy B. WOOD, 96, of Keosauqua died at 3:45 p.m. Wednesday, July 3, 2013, at Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua.

A funeral is at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua with the Rev. Douglas Harding officiating. Burial will be in Pittsburg Cemetery west of Keosauqua.

Visitation is 3-5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with family present from 4-5 p.m.

Memorials to the Keosauqua United Methodist Church or Pittsburg Cemetery may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 407 Oak St., Keosauqua 52565.

Mrs. WOOD was born Nov. 12, 1916, near Keosauqua, the daughter of Lawrence E. BOYER and Selma M. CLEMENS BOYER. She married Maxwell L. WOOD Nov. 1, 1941, in Lancaster, Mo. He died in 1975.

She graduated from Keosauqua High School in 1931. After high school she worked for Swift & Co., a sub-station on the south side of Ottumwa.

When World War II started, she worked in the Selective Services in Washington, D.C.

After the war she worked for a tax accountant in Salinas, Calif., then moved to Los Angeles where she worked two years for L.A. Teachers Association.

She worked for 31 years for Balboa Insurance in Newport Beach, Calif., and retired July 1983.

She returned to Keosauqua and was secretary to the Esther Circle at the Keosauqua United Methodist Church and a member of Alpha Delpha study club.

She was secretary/treasurer for the Pittsburg Cemetery Association.

Survivors include four sisters, Wilma McVEY and Irene STAGERS of Fairfield, Marilyn NELSON of Albia and Esther LANCASTER of Phoenix, Ariz.

In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by four brothers, John, Wayne, Harold and Leo BOYER.
