Mary Sue WILCOX SCHWARTZ

Mary Sue WILCOX SCHWARTZ, cherished wife, sister, aunt, great aunt and friend, passed away on July 5, 2013, at age 63 in Fairfield, Iowa. She was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on February 12, 1950, graduated from Bountiful High School, and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Sociology from the University of Utah.

Mary Sue loved to move to music. She began dancing and skating when she was four and became a superb dancer and athlete. She had great success in freestyle roller figure skating, winning national championships five times including the United States Senior Ladies events twice, once in 1967 and again in 1969. She also participated in two world championships in Spain and England.

After retiring from skating, Mary Sue found a new outlet for her passion of 'moving to music' through ballroom dance. In 2000, she won the American National Championship in Rhythm Dance. She also won the even more prestigious Ohio Star Ball in 1998, 1999, and 2001, and dozens of other events. During her career, she taught skating for 15 years and was an accountant for many years with Avery Denison and with Cambridge Investment Research, Inc.

Mary Sue felt truly at home when she moved to Fairfield in 1992, and has cherished the sweetness of her many friends who have enriched her life. She and Eric, married on September 15, 1996, were supportive of many Fairfield organizations, including the Fairfield Arts and Convention Center, the MUM Schwartz-Guich Sustainable Living Center, the Women's Crisis Center, and the Lord's Cupboard.

Mary Sue is survived by Eric SCHWARTZ, spouse; Jane WILCOX DeWAAL (Gary), sister; Sarah WILCOX THOMSON (John), sister; 4 nieces, 3 nephews; 8 great nieces; 12 great nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Harold Barber WILCOX and Helen Faye WHITE WILCOX.
