February 04, 2004Carl Ernst Schiedel, 91, of 1734 Mahogany Ave., died at 12:05 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2004, at his home.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Raymond Funeral Home, with the Rev. Kurt Makower officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials have been established to First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) or the Fairfield chapter of FFA.
Mr. Schiedel was born June 14, 1912, on the family farm northeast of Fairfield, the son of William Henry and Sophie Schlenzen Schiedel. He married Marjorie L. Hiatt March 10, 1946, at First Christian Church in Fairfield. She died June 25, 2002.
Mr. Schiedel lived and farmed on the family Century Farm his entire life. He graduated from Fairfield High School in 1931. He was one of the first Fairfield FFA members and took hogs to the Iowa State Fair by train as an FFA project. He was a Polled Hereford breeder. His pastimes included upholstery and caning, as well as reading.
He was a member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and was a member of Farm Bureau, Iowa Polled Hereford Association and American Polled Hereford Association. He and his wife were included in the Iowa Polled Hereford Association Hall of Fame.
Survivors include one son, Don Schiedel; one daughter, Christine Schiedel and one sister, Marjorie M. Schiedel, all of Fairfield.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Ida Schiedel; and three brothers, Jess, George and Henry Schiedel.
